I love spring: the flowers, the fresh air, new things coming to life. After a long, cold winter, there’s something almost miraculous about spring. It’s the promise of new life, year after year. The hope that what seemed dead wasn’t! I think that’s what I love most about spring, the promise of hope.

There is one other part of spring that is also freeing—spring cleaning. There’s just something about cleaning out the cobwebs and scrubbing the baseboards that just makes you feel good. So today, we’re going to start our conversation about spring cleaning. Some love it; some can’t stand it. For most, this is a yearly project. Hopefully, after reading this, you won’t feel quite so overwhelmed.
Why do we spring clean? The history of spring cleaning is fascinating and spans many cultures. Jewish households spring clean in preparation for Passover to ensure there is no leaven in the house. They would give a thorough cleaning house in frontier days because the soot from the well-used fireplace was everywhere, including the windows. They also would pack mud in between the logs for insulation. Part of their spring cleaning chores was to remove the mud between the logs so air would flow through the house.
Even though homes are not covered in soot anymore, it is still a good idea to give our homes a thorough “once over.” Something to be careful of as you dive into your Spring cleaning is your cleaning products. Most are highly toxic, causing severe health issues from skin issues & asthma to cancer! So now what? I have put together a list of things to make spring a success this year

Here are some healthier alternatives to use during spring cleaning this year.
Use rubbing alcohol, vinegar, and baking soda for a natural DIY all-purpose cleaner.
Use clean brands such as:
Instead of toxic room sprays, make your own by putting a tablespoon of rubbing alcohol in a glass spray, add 20-30 drops of your favorite essential oil, top it off with purified water. Shake before each use.
Some spring cleaning tips
Gather everything you need and put it all in a bucket so you can move from room to room easily
Put on some music, and make this once-a-year project enjoyable!
Split it up
Instead of doing it all in one day, do a room a day for a week. By the end of the week, your house will be sparkling, and you won’t be exhausted.
Declutter
My favorite way to declutter is to get 3 bags, or bins/laundry baskets. Have one for trash, one for keep, one for donations. Then go after it!! This works for any room in the house! Including closets.
Set a timer. This helps me so much! I tend to get overwhelmed. Setting a timer helps with the overwhelming feeling, and keeps me on task.
For clothes, use the general rule—if you haven’t worn it in a year, it automatically goes in the donation pile.

I love to work with my clients to help them transition to using more and more natural products instead of harmful, chemical-laden products. Message me if you would like help too!
